Welcome to the new paradigm for Adult Christian Learning.
Be with each other.
Be with God.
Belong to a caring community which is on a journey of faith.
Believe in meaningful, life-giving and life-guiding principles involving the central insights and values of Christianity.
Become spiritually empowered and experience the presence of God.
Build, individually and collectively, a community and world in which the good called for by God is actualized for each of God’s children.
Pastor Kathleen Athey is the clergy member charged with guiding the Adult Learning at PVUMC.
Information about specific classes is posted on our calendar or in the Adult Learning Brochure. For more information on any of
the classes or to offer ideas, contact Pastor Kathleen at 602-840-8360, ext. 130 or
via email.
Pastor Kathleen and the Adult Learning Ministry Team strive to develop a wide variety of classes to enhance spiritual life and
to provide insight into living one's faith in responsible discipleship.
Small Groups:
A sense of belonging is the first step in the new Adult Christian Learning paradigm and a small group learning environment is a
place to begin. These groups are called affinity or covenant groups and range from 6 to 12 members.
Affinity groups have a shared interest, life stage or situation and offer opportunities for fellowship, learning and service. A covenant
group's members commit to each other and are focused on spiritual growth, companionship, mutual accountability and development of
discipleship. Covenant groups chart their own course, with assistance from Adult Learning if requested.
Resources are available to begin and organize the course of your own small group and to assist with leadership, facilitation and
any other issue that might arise in the process. Contact Pastor Kathleen at 602-840-8360, ext. 130 or
via email if you have questions.
Long-Term Classes
Disciple: The DISCIPLE Bible Study series is designed to develop strong Christian local churches
through in-depth study of Scripture. These studies strengthen persons in their faith and guide them into service
and ministry. DISCIPLE deepens faith, activates leadership, creates fellowship and transforms lives. There are
four studies in the DISCIPLE series, all of which run the course of the school year. Disciple I is an overview
of the entire Bible and must be taken first. Disciple II, III and IV deal with specific books in more detail.

Short Term Classes and Discussion Groups:
Each year the adult learning team offers short-term opportunities in the study of spiritual formation, Biblical and theological topics
and other issues relating to church, community, the environment, social justice and global conflict. Other classes connect those who
share interests as they belong, believe, become and build through Christian learning. See current brochure.
