Congregational Care

The Congregational Care Ministry programs are a way for the church to connect with its members and are supported by the Caring Ministry Team. The Congregational Care Ministers (CCM) are lay ministers who work alongside the pastors to provide care for the church family and who have a gift of compassion, encouragement, organization and are willing to share their gifts with the congregation. There are two types of Congregational Care Ministry programs. They are: Congregational Care, and Leadership and Homebound Congregational Care.

Adult Bible Study

A wonderful group of PV members who meet each Sunday to partake in a traditional Bible Study and support each other through prayer and fellowship.

We meet from 10:30 – 11:30 in Room H6 in the Hobbs Family Learning Center. Recently we have been using Bible Study books by Max Lucado. The group is led by Kent & Cindy Heltne. We welcome anyone who is interested in growing in their faith through Bible study. Contact: Kheltne@cox.net

Open Table

Open Table is a ministry of relationship where groups of 6-12 PVUMC members come together to be in a relationship with brothers & sisters who are seeking help in transitioning out of poverty or changing their life circumstances. The CORE Open Table model is a group of 6-8 people who come around a brother or sister or a family and walk with them for one year, meeting weekly for one hour to help them achieve their goals in life. PV has had 26 tables ministering to youth aging out of foster care, homeless veterans, families in poverty and others.

The newest Open Table Model is The Network Table. This is also a ministry of relationship where 12 members work with organizations like The South Mountain High School Lady Jags Basketball program to provide our social and relational connections (capital) to level the competitive playing field between underserved schools like South Mountain and high schools in more affluent areas of Phoenix that have access to many more resources.

We’ve also established a Network Table with The Mayo Clinic and Valley wise Healthcare to help patient referrals address and overcome some of the obstacles they are facing that prevent them from accessing healthcare they desperately need. Open Table is a discipleship ministry and we have had over 120 of our members come to tables to help our brothers and sisters in need.

Earth Care

Earth Care An initiative of PVUMC to model environmental sustainability in churches. We recognize our call as Christians to be stewards of God’s creation. And we resolve to provide opportunities for Christians and people of all faiths to experience God through nature with a deeper reverence for what He has given us.

Earth Care is not just about sustainable churches. It strives to provide opportunities for PVUMC members and our neighbors to become better educated about how to protect our natural world. We offer speaker series, book studies and a range of special projects to engage families and community members of all ages.

Church & Society

Church & Society The mission of the Church & Society Ministry Team is to equip the PVUMC family to be a faithful influence for social, racial and economic systemic change; for developing relationships and solidarity with communities beyond the church's more immediate surroundings; and to be a forum for the many different perspectives of what social justice is.

It is also the core team for the Valley Interfaith Project which is non-partisan but advocates for social justice issues on the city, county and state levels in the political arena. Church & Society meets the second Monday of each month at 6pm on Zoom.
